The Spectral Advantage in Agriculture

Axine Labs Research9 Aug 2026

Orbital shortwave infrared characterisation of agricultural soils, extracting the Cellulose Absorption Index (CAI) for crop residue cover, clay mineral composition, and soil organic carbon (SOC) baseline proxies across bare soil windows.

Key findings

  • 2.00–2.20 µm cellulose absorption doublet differentiates crop residue from dry bare soil without NDVI saturation artifacts.
  • Illite/smectite clay mineral ratios accurately map soil moisture retention capacity and cation exchange capacity (CEC) variations.
  • Multi-temporal bare-soil compositing isolates pure soil spectral curves for calibrated SOC baseline proxy maps.
